Morel Mushrooms in Season Around Oneida Lake

For those of you that dont know about Morel Mushrooms, they are delicious! Often compared to Truffles in taste and called the Truffles of the North. Morels are very expensive, pickers often wholesale them for $50 to $75 plus a pound. Retailers getting $150 plus a pound. Fine French restaraunts like to use them.
Morels can be found in the Oneida Lake area, We have a spot we pick every year and get 3 to 4 pounds each spring, and we eat them, as they are so delicious. Here is a link to learn more about Morel Mushrooms.
http://thegreatmorel.com/   below are some photos of Morels we picked on the Shore of Oneida Lake. They stay in season for a very short period of time, and taste great when eaten freshly picked,(Dont eat them raw) Morels dont taste like any mushroom you have had before. There are clubs around the US devoted to hunting these elusive delicacies every spring.  We Love them battered in flour and fried with butter, also a recipe stuffed with sausage and cheese is wonderful. If you are lucky enough to find a patch of them , leave a few behind so they will spore, and grow more next year.

Delicious Fresh Morels stuffed with sausage and cheese!
